Amazon, the global e-commerce and cloud computing leader, reported robust financial results for the third quarter of 2025, with net income surging 38% year-over-year, largely driven by the strong performance of its cloud unit, Amazon Web Services (AWS).
The company, founded by Jeff Bezos, recorded total revenue of $180.169 billion for the quarter ending September 30, 2025. This figure represents a 13% increase compared to the same period in 2024 and surpassed the $177.8 billion projected by Bloomberg analysts. Net income for the quarter reached $21.187 billion.
The primary catalyst for the strong results was the performance of AWS, which continues to benefit from the high demand for computing power related to artificial intelligence (AI) development.
AWS sales grew 20.2% year-over-year, reaching $33.0 billion. This growth rate exceeded analyst expectations, who had projected an 18% increase for the segment. The 20.2% rise marked the largest increase in sales for the cloud segment in three years.
Amazon President and CEO Andy Jassy stated that the company continues to observe strong momentum and growth, noting that AI is driving significant improvements across all areas of the business. The e-commerce giant is considered a pioneer in cloud computing and remains at the forefront of AI development, which is fueling the demand for its infrastructure services.
In addition to the cloud segment, Amazon's core retail operations also posted growth during the quarter. Sales in the North America segment increased 11% year-over-year, totaling $106.3 billion.
International sales also showed strength, rising 14% to $40.9 billion. Excluding the impact of foreign currency fluctuations, international sales growth stood at 10%.
The overall revenue of $180.200 billion marked a 13% increase over the revenue recorded in the third quarter of 2024, reflecting a favorable period for the company across its diverse business units.
