Bad Bunny is backing down from a comment he made in October regarding his upcoming Super Bowl halftime performance. At that time, speaking on "Saturday Night Live," he said critics of his show needed to learn Spanish. "If you didn't understand what I just said, you have four months to learn," he said after delivering remarks in Spanish.
This week, during an appearance at San Francisco's Moscone Center, Bad Bunny clarified his position. "I know I told them they had four months to learn Spanish. They don't even have to learn Spanish. They can learn to dance," he told a crowd gathered at the venue.
The Puerto Rican artist, whose real name is Benito Antonio MartÃnez Ocasio, will perform at Super Bowl XL on Sunday at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California. The game will feature the Seattle Seahawks against the New England Patriots.
Bad Bunny's halftime performance will mark the first entirely Spanish-language show in the 60-year history of the Super Bowl. In an interview with Apple Music's Zane Lowe and Ebro Darden, he described his vision for the performance. "Only I want people to have fun. It's going to be a big party," he said, adding that he aims to bring Hispanic culture to an unprecedented scale during the event.
Bad Bunny previously appeared at the Super Bowl in 2020 as a guest performer. He has been Spotify's most-streamed artist four times in the last six years. His 2022 album, "Un Verano Sin Ti," is the platform's most-streamed album of all time, and he has more than 51 million followers on Instagram.
Speaking about his excitement for the performance, Bad Bunny said, "I'm really excited to be doing the Super Bowl. I know that people all around the world who love my music are also happy."
