President Donald Trump has invited executives from some of the largest U.S. companies to accompany him on his trip to China this week for a summit with Chinese President Xi Jinping, according to White House officials.
The delegation includes Tesla CEO Elon Musk, Apple CEO Tim Cook, BlackRock CEO Larry Fink, and Boeing CEO Kelly Ortberg. Also joining the trip are executives from Meta, Goldman Sachs, Blackstone, Citigroup, JP Morgan, Visa, and Cargill, among others. In total, 17 U.S. executives will participate in the visit, a White House official told the BBC.
Additional executives on the list include David Solomon of Goldman Sachs, Stephen Schwarzman of Blackstone, Jane Fraser of Citigroup, and Dina Powell McCormick of Meta, according to a White House official.
Trump is expected to use the visit to pursue a series of commercial agreements and purchase contracts with China. The talks between Trump and Xi are anticipated to cover trade, artificial intelligence, export controls, Taiwan, and the Iran war, according to sources familiar with the planned discussions.
The summit comes after weeks of escalating tensions between Washington and Beijing over artificial intelligence technology, sanctions, and rare earth exports. A White House official said China will seek to obtain stability during the meeting, though energy crisis issues may emerge as a critical point of contention, according to an expert cited in reporting on the visit.
