Pop star Chappell Roan announced Monday that she is no longer represented by Wasserman, the talent agency led by Casey Wasserman, following the revelation of email exchanges between Wasserman and convicted sex trafficker Ghislaine Maxwell.
The emails, dating from 2003, were included in files related to late financier and sex offender Jeffrey Epstein published by the U.S. Justice Department in recent weeks. Wasserman, who was married at the time, exchanged flirtatious messages with Maxwell, Epstein's longtime companion.
"As of today, I am no longer represented by Wasserman, the talent agency led by Casey Wasserman," Roan said in an Instagram post on Monday. "I hold my teams to the highest standards and have a duty to protect them as well."
Roan, 27, added that "no artist, agent or employee should ever be expected to defend or overlook actions that conflict so deeply with our own moral values." She stated that "artists deserve representation that aligns with their values and supports their safety and dignity," and emphasized that "meaningful change in our industry requires accountability and leadership."
Roan also wrote: "I have deep respect and appreciation for the agents and staff who work tirelessly for their artists and I refuse to passively stand by."
Wasserman has apologized for his communications with Maxwell. The agency represents numerous high-profile clients, including Adam Sandler and Brad Pitt. Wasserman also serves as chairman of the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics.
