A coastal storm moving up the Eastern Seaboard is expected to bring significant rainfall and gusty winds to the Northeast, potentially dampening early Halloween festivities and soaking trick-or-treaters in New York City.

Forecasters reported that the storm is currently in the forecast for the weekend, with impacts expected to peak on Thursday and possibly linger into Friday night, which is Halloween.

The coastal system is predicted to deliver substantial precipitation across the region. The FOX forecast center noted that parts of the Northeast could see between two and three inches of rain on Thursday alone. This heavy rainfall is expected to be enhanced by moisture drawn from Hurricane Melissa, a separate system positioned more than 1,000 miles offshore.

The lingering effects of these storms could bring rain and gusty winds to the city throughout Halloween night on Friday. The National Weather Service's seven-day forecast also indicates a chance for showers on Friday.

Temperatures across the region are expected to remain relatively mild, with highs reaching the 60s Fahrenheit for the next few days. However, forecasters cautioned that the "real feel" temperature will likely be lower on most days due to wind and moisture.

The precipitation chances begin Wednesday night, when the low is expected to reach 53 degrees Fahrenheit, accompanied by mostly cloudy skies and a 60% chance of showers.

The most intense weather is anticipated on Thursday. The high is forecast to reach 63 degrees Fahrenheit, with showers and possible thunderstorms expected throughout the day. Conditions will also be breezy. Thursday night is predicted to see a low of 53 degrees Fahrenheit, with an 80% chance of precipitation.

The forecast for Friday, Halloween night, suggests slightly cooler temperatures and continued chances for rain. The high is expected to reach 55 degrees Fahrenheit. While the day is forecast to be partly sunny, there remains a chance of showers, along with the potential for rain and gusty winds that could affect outdoor activities and trick-or-treating in the city.
