Five killed in apparent murder-suicide in Georgia home

Five people were shot and killed in an apparent murder-suicide at a residence in Douglas, Georgia on Friday night, authorities said.

The deceased were all members of the same family who lived at the home, according to officials. One of the victims placed the initial emergency call reporting the shooting.

Officers responded to reports of an active shooter later on Friday evening, Brannen Pruette, the Douglas police chief, said at a Saturday news conference. Responding officers found four deceased adults inside the home. A fifth individual was transported to a hospital, where the person was later pronounced dead.

The shooting occurred around 11 p.m. in the Tachton Woods neighborhood on Robin Street, according to local media reports. A male shooter killed four people before taking his own life, the reports stated.

The Douglas Police Department said in a statement Saturday that the incident was connected to domestic violence. According to reports, a woman had called police several hours before the shooting occurred.

The identities of the victims have not been formally released. The motive for the shooting remains under investigation, authorities said. The Douglas Police Department stated that the investigation is ongoing and additional information will be released as details emerge.
