Gold bars worth $1.2 billion found hidden in toilet during missing person search

Argentine federal police discovered four gold ingots hidden inside an unused toilet tank during a raid in Caleta Olivia, Santa Cruz, on Saturday. The operation was conducted by the Prefectura Naval Argentina as part of an investigation into a missing person case.

The gold bars, each weighing more than 2.5 kilograms, were found concealed in the water tank of a bathroom toilet. Authorities said the ingots, along with other items seized during the operation, have an estimated combined value exceeding 1.2 billion Argentine pesos.

The raid took place at two residences in Caleta Olivia. Officers identified three adults at the properties. At one of the homes where the gold was discovered, authorities also seized a vehicle, a DVR recording device, two mobile phones, 38 cartridge casings, and three envelopes containing swab samples taken from a refrigerator.

Officials said additional items were confiscated and will be analyzed for their potential relevance to the investigation. The operation was part of broader investigative efforts related to the disappearance of a man, though authorities did not provide further details about the missing person case or the connection to the seized materials.
