A man died of a heart attack while attempting to dispose of his girlfriend's body in remote woods in Alabama, authorities said.
Daniel Robbins, 44, and Jessica Folds, 47, were found dead next to each other on June 10 in a wooded area near Lanett in Chambers County, Alabama, approximately 125 miles from Robbins' home in Macon, Georgia. The bodies were discovered near an abandoned vehicle on a dirt road close to County Road 86 after a passerby noticed Robbins' pickup truck was still running with the driver's side door open.
According to investigators, Folds had been strangled to death. Robbins was found in the fetal position beside her body. Authorities believe Robbins suffered the fatal heart attack while attempting to hide Folds' body in the remote location.
Mike Segrest, an official cited in the investigation, stated that "the female victim was strangled, and it appears the male was attempting to dispose of the body in a remote location. He died of a heart attack while doing it. Their bodies were right there together."
The Chambers County Sheriff's Office sent both bodies to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences for autopsies. Investigators determined through their examination that Robbins died of a heart attack during the disposal attempt.
Authorities indicated that Folds was believed to have been murdered during a domestic dispute, though the location where the alleged strangulation occurred has not been disclosed. Folds was a mother of three adult children.
