Jonathan McKinsey, director of engineering for New York Times Games, was shot and killed Saturday afternoon in the parking lot of Dublin Sports Grounds, a Bay Area park in Dublin, California. His parents-in-law, a man and woman both in their late 70s, were arrested on suspicion of murder within minutes of the incident.
A Dublin Police Services sergeant driving near the sports complex at approximately 3:08 p.m. spotted McKinsey lying in the parking lot and stopped to investigate. Dispatchers were simultaneously receiving multiple 911 calls reporting a shooting. Responding officers found the 40-year-old Dublin resident suffering from multiple gunshot wounds and pronounced him dead at the scene.
The alleged shooters were taken into custody shortly after officers arrived. Authorities have not released their identities or disclosed the circumstances that led to the shooting. The relationship between the parties and the events preceding the incident remain under investigation.
McKinsey, who had held the position of director of engineering for New York Times Games since January 2023, was a Dublin resident. A New York Times spokesperson confirmed his role with the games division of the New York Times Company to Fox News Digital.
