A shooting at a downtown Minneapolis apartment building Wednesday afternoon left three people dead and six others injured, authorities said.
Minneapolis police responded to a report of gunfire at 4:36 p.m. at Loring Towers, a high-rise apartment located at 15 East Grant Street in downtown Minneapolis. Officers arrived at the scene in less than two minutes.
Upon arrival, officers encountered multiple victims and heard additional gunfire coming from within the building. Police say officers followed the sound of gunfire to an upper floor, where visibility was significantly limited by haze.
Officers exchanged gunfire with the suspect. Three police officers were injured during the encounter. Two officers were shot; one was struck twice in the stomach and another was shot once in the leg. A third officer was evaluated for a non-life threatening injury.
Three civilians were also injured in the incident. The dead included the suspected shooter and two civilians, according to authorities. Minneapolis police said they are still investigating how the suspected shooter died.
