Woman fatally stabbed during dispute in Brooklyn park

A 30-year-old woman was fatally stabbed during a dispute inside Lincoln Terrace Park in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, early Tuesday, according to police.

Officers responded to a call for a stabbing just after 12:40 a.m. at the park near Eastern Parkway and Rochester Avenue. When they arrived, they found the woman with multiple stab wounds throughout her body. Emergency Medical Services transported her to Brookdale University Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Police said a fight broke out around 2:40 a.m. in the park, and the argument escalated into violence when the suspect stabbed the victim multiple times. Investigators believe the stabbing stemmed from a dispute before the attack, though details about the circumstances leading up to the violence were not immediately released. It remains unclear whether the suspect and victim knew each other.

A male suspect fled the scene toward Rochester Avenue following the attack. He was last seen wearing gray sweatpants and no shirt. As of early Tuesday, no arrests had been made and the investigation remained ongoing.

Police have been focusing their investigation around a set of park benches and a nearby grassy area where trash and personal belongings were left behind. Officers were seen questioning a few people who may have been in the area at the time.

The victim has not been identified pending family notification.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the NYPD's Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477), or 1-888-57-PISTA (74782) for Spanish-language callers.
