Miami will host the return of reggaeton icon Daddy Yankee, now artistically known as DY, to the music stage at the 2025 Billboard Latin Music Awards. The artist, who announced his retirement in 2023, is set to perform on October 23 at the James L. Knight Center, according to event organizers and Telemundo.

This appearance marks a significant comeback for DY, who concluded his “La Última Vuelta” tour in December 2023, a tour that was billed as his definitive farewell. That tour achieved substantial success, selling nearly two million tickets and grossing over $200 million.

Organizers described DY's return as a moment to offer "an unforgettable performance that will inspire and thrill the audience." They highlighted his seminal role in elevating reggaeton to a global phenomenon and acknowledged his extensive list of accolades, including Latin Grammys, Billboard Music Awards, ASCAP Awards, and his induction into the Billboard Hall of Fame.

While details of his performance remain under wraps, the artist, whose real name is Ramón Luis Ayala Rodríguez, has been exploring new artistic directions. In July, he released "Sonríele," a Christian song signaling a new phase in his career following his temporary absence from the spotlight. This musical shift also follows his artistic name change to DY in February, a decision he linked to his divorce, aiming to avoid royalty payments to his ex-wife.

DY's participation in the awards ceremony coincides with his involvement in the 2025 Billboard Latin Music Week, scheduled to take place from October 20 to 24 in Miami Beach. He is also slated to give a special interview during the week's events.

Meanwhile, Peruvian cumbia group Grupo 5, led by brothers Christian, Andy, and Elmer Yaipén, will also be featured at the 2025 Billboard Latin Music Week. The group shared with RPP the challenges and successes of their international outreach, noting their first appearance in Billboard in 2019 and their ongoing efforts to promote their music globally.
