A British judge ordered Mitch Winehouse, father of late singer Amy Winehouse, to pay 950,000 pounds (approximately 1.1 million euros) to two friends on Wednesday following a legal dispute over the sale of the artist's personal belongings.

Justice Sarah Clarke issued the ruling in a London tribunal, concluding that Mitch Winehouse had brought the case against Catriona Gourlay and Naomi Parry without proper grounds. The judge found that Mitch "knew all along" about the auctions and was "prone to aggressive reactions to perceived wrongs."

Gourlay and Parry, the latter of whom also served as Amy Winehouse's stylist, sold 155 personal items belonging to the singer through multiple auctions between 2021 and 2023. The items included clothing, handbags, shoes, jewelry, and makeup. Among the pieces sold was the dress Amy Winehouse wore during her final tour in 2011.

Mitch Winehouse had sued the two women in December 2025, accusing them of selling the items without his permission and acting in bad faith. He claimed the auction, organized through Los Angeles-based Julien's Auctions, had been "deliberately concealed from him."

In April, the High Court of the United Kingdom initially ruled in favor of Gourlay and Parry, determining they had not deliberately hidden any of the disputed items from Mitch. He subsequently appealed the decision. The judge's ruling this week upheld the earlier verdict and imposed financial penalties on the father.

Justice Clarke determined in her judgment that the personal items had been genuinely gifted to the two friends by Amy Winehouse herself. The court found no evidence of deliberate concealment or bad faith on the part of Gourlay and Parry regarding their intention to sell the belongings.
