Taylor Swift paid New York City more than $160,000 to cover the cost of a permit and city resources required for her wedding at Madison Square Garden, Mayor Zohran Mamdani said Friday.

"Taylor Swift has paid already the cost of the permit that was lodged, which was over $160,000 for that event and for the response to that event," Mamdani said during a press conference. "And that was a permit that was finalized, I think, in just the days before the event itself."

The wedding took place July 3 at the Manhattan venue. Swift, 36, married Travis Kelce, also 36, in a ceremony attended by hundreds of celebrities, athletes, and close friends and family. Swift's representative Tree Paine confirmed the couple officially said "I do."

The permit covered city resources deployed to manage the event, including New York Police Department personnel assigned to handle street closures and traffic management in the surrounding areas of Madison Square Garden. The special event permit was filed by the New York Mayor's Office of Media and Entertainment for the period from the evening of June 28 to the evening of July 4 on the city blocks where the arena is located.

Mamdani addressed the permit fee when asked whether Swift planned to reimburse the city for police overtime costs associated with the high-profile event. The mayor noted that the wedding occurred during an already busy summer for New York City, which had hosted the New York Knicks' first championship in 53 years, the FIFA World Cup, and celebrations marking the nation's 250th anniversary. Mamdani characterized the period as encompassing "a number of what are both historical and generational events."
