Lucy Davis, the British actor best known for playing receptionist Dawn Tinsley in the original version of The Office, announced Tuesday that she has incurable stage four breast cancer.
The 53-year-old said she was diagnosed a year and a half ago after discovering a small lump in her breast. The cancer has since metastasised to her bones, including her spine, right hip and ribs. She stated that chemotherapy is no longer a viable treatment option.
Davis shared the news on Instagram in a post that included a video of herself ringing a bell after completing cancer treatment. She wrote that she is attempting to live out whatever time remains "in as fun a way as I possibly can." She added that she has found teachable moments in her diagnosis and expressed gratitude for lessons learned from the experience.
The actor acknowledged the physical toll of her condition, noting that pain is significant and that standing and walking have become increasingly difficult. Despite these challenges, she said the difficulties are not preventing her from continuing to work as an actor and animal welfare activist.
Davis emphasised the importance of humour in coping with her situation. She has appeared in films including Wonder Woman and has built a following of approximately 590,000 on Instagram, where she shared her announcement with her followers.
