TV Globo announced Tuesday that "Avenida Brasil 2" will be its next prime-time telenovela, with premiere scheduled for January 2027. The sequel will replace "Quem Ama Cuida" in the broadcaster's 9 p.m. slot.
The announcement was made on the network's social media accounts. Globo posted: "Breathe. It is official: 'Avenida Brasil 2', your next 9 p.m. telenovela, arrives in January 2027." The network reinforced the news in a follow-up message: "The telenovela that stopped Brazil in 2012 will return. 'Avenida Brasil 2', the continuation, premieres in January 2027."
The original "Avenida Brasil" aired in 2012 and followed the story of Nina, played by Débora Falabella, who returns to Brazil seeking revenge against Carminha, portrayed by Adriana Esteves. The series became a major success in Brazilian television. Currently, the original telenovela is being rebroadcast on the network's "Vale a Pena Ver de Novo" program.
João Emanuel Carneiro, who wrote the original series, will also write the sequel. The production team includes Henrique Sauer as general director and Ricardo Waddington as artistic director. André Barros, Mayara Aguiar, and Isabella Teixeira are also part of the production.
Actor Drico Alves, 24 years old, has been confirmed as part of the cast. While the network has not yet disclosed the exact premiere date within January 2027, expectations remain high regarding the return of classic characters. There is anticipation for the return of figures such as Carminha and Tufão, though full cast confirmation and story details have not yet been fully detailed by the broadcaster.
