Bears QB Caleb Williams returns to practice after hamstring injury

Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams returned to practice Friday for the first time since suffering a right hamstring injury during a Week 2 loss to the Minnesota Vikings. Williams, who sat out the last two games, was a limited participant during the session.

Williams stretched and jogged across the field with fellow quarterbacks during the portion of practice open to the media. Friday marked the lightest of the Bears' three practice days, and his participation was restricted accordingly.

The Bears' final injury report for Week 5 listed Williams as questionable for Sunday's game against the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field. Bears head coach Ben Johnson had already announced earlier in the week that backup Tyson Bagent would start his second consecutive game against the Packers.

Johnson said of Williams on Friday at Halas Hall in Lake Forest that "he's right on track." The coach noted that Williams had thrown to teammates on Wednesday after practice as part of his recovery progression. Johnson added that the team has "a progression set up for what that looks like," though he said Williams' return date remains "to be determined."

Williams was initially injured nearly three weeks ago in the Vikings loss. Since the injury, he has been week-to-week and had not participated in any practice sessions until Friday.
