Daniel Maldini, a 24-year-old forward for Cagliari and son of legendary defender Paolo Maldini, tested positive for alcohol following a car accident in Milan early Sunday morning.
The collision occurred around 5:15 a.m. in northern Milan when Maldini's Porsche Carrera 4 struck a Volkswagen Golf. Six people were present at the scene, all in good condition according to authorities.
Police conducted two breathalyzer tests at the location. Maldini registered 0.91 milligrams per liter in the first test and 0.89 milligrams per liter in the second. Italy's legal limit for driving is 0.5 milligrams per liter. He was charged with driving under the influence, and his driver's license was suspended.
An initial drug test also returned positive, according to reports. Maldini was transported to a hospital for further examination and was later discharged.
The incident occurred hours after Maldini scored a penalty kick in Cagliari's match against Atalanta in Bergamo on Saturday. The goal secured victory for Cagliari and marked his second consecutive Serie A goal.
