Giants acquire quarterback J.J. McCarthy from Vikings for 2027 fifth-round pick

The New York Giants have acquired quarterback J.J. McCarthy from the Minnesota Vikings for a 2027 fifth-round pick, the Vikings announced Monday pending McCarthy passing a physical.

The Giants made the move days after Jaxson Dart underwent surgery on his left knee that will sideline him for at least the remainder of the regular season. McCarthy was the 10th overall pick in the 2024 draft but lost the starting job in Minnesota to Kyler Murray and fell behind Carson Wentz on the depth chart.

Jameis Winston started for the Giants on Sunday and defeated Tennessee despite not scoring a touchdown and accumulating just 238 yards of offense. Coach John Harbaugh said after that game that Winston would start again this Sunday against Arizona.

The quarterback situation for New York remains unclear following the addition of McCarthy to the roster.
