Lamine Yamal will miss the remainder of Barcelona's La Liga season after sustaining a hamstring injury during Wednesday's match against Celta Vigo, the club confirmed Thursday.

The 18-year-old Spanish international was injured immediately after scoring the opening goal from the penalty spot in the 40th minute. Yamal drew a foul from Celta Vigo defender Yoel Lago in the 38th minute, then converted the resulting penalty with a low strike. He did not celebrate the goal and went down injured, clutching his left leg.

Barcelona's medical team conducted tests Thursday that confirmed a hamstring injury affecting the biceps femoris muscle in Yamal's left leg. The club said the player will follow a conservative treatment plan for the remainder of the season.

"The tests carried out have confirmed that first-team player Lamine Yamal has a hamstring injury in his left leg (biceps femoris muscle)," Barcelona posted on X. "The player will follow a conservative treatment plan. Lamine Yamal will miss the remainder of the season, and he is expected to be available for the World Cup."

Despite the injury ending his domestic campaign, Barcelona officials expect Yamal to be fit for Spain's World Cup squad this summer. The timeline between now and the tournament provides sufficient recovery time under the conservative treatment approach.

Barcelona's 1-0 victory over Celta Vigo moved the club closer to retaining the La Liga title. With six matches remaining in the season, Barcelona leads the standings on 82 points, nine clear of second-place Real Madrid.
