Liverpool advanced to the Champions League quarterfinals Tuesday with a 4-0 victory over Galatasaray at Anfield, overturning a 1-0 first-leg deficit to progress 4-1 on aggregate.
Dominik Szoboszlai opened the scoring in the 25th minute with a side-footed strike from a low corner that levelled the aggregate score. Hugo Ekitike, Ryan Gravenberch and Mohamed Salah added further goals as Liverpool dominated the match.
The victory sets up a quarterfinal tie against defending champions Paris Saint-Germain, the side which beat Liverpool in the competition last year.
Manager Arne Slot's team had been under pressure following recent performances in the Premier League. Liverpool were booed off at Anfield on Sunday after a 1-1 draw against Tottenham, extending a series of lacklustre displays. The club currently sits fifth in the Premier League standings.
Against Galatasaray, Liverpool produced one of their best performances of the season. The hosts registered 32 attempts on goal and created numerous chances throughout the match. Slot's men were described as worthy winners deserving of their place in the last eight.
The emphatic result provided relief for Slot after the disappointing run of form in domestic competition. Liverpool's attacking display contrasted sharply with their recent struggles for fluency and potency in the league.
