Monaco and Pogba in talks to terminate contract after six appearances

Paul Pogba is set to leave Monaco by mutual agreement after making just six appearances for the Ligue 1 club, according to officials familiar with the situation.

Talks between the player and Monaco over terminating the two-year contract are ongoing and expected to be concluded soon. The agreement was originally due to run until the end of the forthcoming season, but discussions over an early exit have been underway for several weeks.

The 33-year-old French midfielder joined Monaco on a free transfer last summer after being permitted to return to professional football following a doping suspension. The club had hoped to restore him to previous fitness levels, but injuries have disrupted his time at the club.

Pogba sustained a hamstring injury on Tuesday at St. George's Park, where Monaco are based during their pre-season tour of England. The injury is feared to sideline the midfielder for several months, though the precise extent of the damage has not been confirmed.

His first season at Monaco was marked by injury setbacks, though there had been hope he would play regularly this season. A managerial change at the club, with Filipe Luis replacing Sebastien Pocognoli, could also influence Monaco's direction in central midfield.
