Jamal Musiala collapsed during Bayern Munich's pre-season friendly against Heidenheim on Tuesday, marking the second time in three days the German midfielder lost consciousness on the pitch.
Musiala entered the match as a substitute around the 60th minute and fell to the ground approximately eight minutes later, in the 69th minute. Club doctors immediately attended to him on the field while teammates gathered around to shield him from view. He was able to walk off the pitch, though appearing dazed, and was accompanied by a club physician.
The incident followed a similar collapse on Saturday during Bayern's friendly against RB Leipzig in Munich, when Musiala also fainted and had to be removed from the match. Medical staff initially attributed that episode to heat exhaustion.
Following the Tuesday incident, Musiala issued a statement explaining his condition. The 23-year-old midfielder said he had been diagnosed with brief, temporary absence seizures caused by a neurological dysfunction, which he described as "highly treatable." He stated: "I find myself well. I am especially grateful for your messages and your support. I understand that many of you are worried. I would like to dispel those concerns today and explain the situation: I have been diagnosed with brief and temporary absence crises—but highly treatable—caused by a neurological dysfunction."
After the Saturday incident, Musiala underwent medical examinations that ruled out serious complications. He returned to individual training on Monday, August 17, completing a session lasting more than an hour at Bayern's training facility. He focused on dribbling and shooting drills, working alongside his fitness coach Simon Martinello.
Bayern Munich defeated Heidenheim 4-2 in the friendly on Tuesday. Musiala, who recently competed for Germany at the 2026 World Cup, has been undergoing pre-season preparation with the Bundesliga club.
