Alpine confirms Franco Colapinto for 2027 Formula 1 season

Alpine has confirmed that Franco Colapinto will remain with the team for the 2027 Formula 1 season, the French outfit announced Thursday. The confirmation completes Alpine's driver lineup for the coming year.

Colapinto, 23, joined Alpine at the start of 2025 as a reserve driver before stepping into a race seat six races into the season as a replacement for Jack Doohan. The Argentine driver announced the news on Instagram, writing "Very happy to announce that I will continue racing with them!" and thanking supporters since his first day with the team.

"Thank you to everyone who supported us from day one and to those who are always present," Colapinto wrote. "This is just the beginning. There is still a long way to go in Argentina, 2027, let's go all the way."

Alpine published two statements on its social media accounts confirming that Colapinto "completes our driver pairing for 2027," meaning the team will maintain its current driver lineup unchanged into the next season.

Colapinto has recorded his best Formula 1 results to date in 2026, benefitting from his first full preseason and winter test sessions. He has scored points in six out of 12 races this season, with a best finish of sixth place at the Canadian Grand Prix in May.

Alpine executive advisor Flavio Briatore has spoken positively of Colapinto's performance this year. Briatore suggested a couple of months ago that there would be no reason to consider a change in the driver lineup if Colapinto maintained his level of performance.

The announcement came ahead of the Italian Grand Prix.
