Germany is allocating an additional €250 million to Ukraine's Energy Support Fund, according to an announcement by First Deputy Prime Minister for Energy Affairs Denys Shmyhal on Thursday.
The contribution aims to strengthen the stability of the Ukrainian energy industry as the country prepares for winter. With this new allocation, Germany's total contribution to the Fund reaches €807 million, making it the largest donor to the program.
Across all partner nations, donors have contributed more than €2.4 billion to the Energy Support Fund to date. Despite these contributions, Ukraine's energy sector faces ongoing challenges. Shmyhal noted that constant Russian attacks have created significant needs for Ukrainian energy companies.
According to Shmyhal, an additional €561.5 million is required to adequately support Ukraine's energy infrastructure. He stated that Ukraine is counting on further financial assistance from international partners to prepare the energy system for winter and to support recovery efforts following Russian attacks on energy facilities.
Federal Minister of Economy and Energy Katherina Reiche was acknowledged by Shmyhal for her role in facilitating the German government's support.
