Pier Silvio Berlusconi, chief executive of Mediaset, was involved in a violent head-on collision Wednesday evening while driving home from the company's offices in Cologno Monzese, authorities said.

The accident occurred around 9:30 p.m. on the provincial road between Villasanta and Arcore, north of Milan. Berlusconi was driving his own vehicle when a car traveling in the opposite direction lost control during acceleration, crossed into his lane, and collided with him nearly head-on.

Despite the force of the impact, which destroyed the front section of Berlusconi's vehicle, he sustained only minor injuries. His condition was such that no changes were made to his scheduled commitments for Thursday, June 11, including a commemoration event marking the third anniversary of his father Silvio Berlusconi's death, scheduled for that evening at Mediaset headquarters with company staff in attendance.

The sources did not provide details about the driver of the other vehicle or any injuries they may have sustained.
