The highly anticipated Ligue 1 fixture between Olympique de Marseille and Paris Saint-Germain, known as "Le Classique," has been postponed due to severe weather warnings. The decision was made by French authorities, who cited concerns for the safety of players, staff, and fans amid forecasts of heavy rain and thunderstorms.

Authorities in the Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur (PACA) region, where Marseille is located, issued an orange alert for flooding and storms. The forecast indicated that rainfall could reach significant levels, with potential for intense downpours within a short period, raising fears of urban flooding and landslides.

The match was scheduled to take place at the Stade Velodrome, but the unpredictable weather conditions made it impossible to guarantee the safety of all involved. The French prefecture urged citizens to avoid travel and exercise caution within the city due to the risks associated with the expected meteorological phenomenon.

Marseille and PSG were notified of the postponement, and the competition organizers will now need to reschedule the fixture. This match was expected to be a crucial encounter for both sides, with Paris Saint-Germain currently leading Ligue 1 and Marseille looking to improve its standing in the league.

Paris Saint-Germain has had a strong start to the season, remaining undefeated and at the top of the Ligue 1 table with four consecutive wins. In contrast, Olympique de Marseille has had a more inconsistent campaign, sitting ninth in the league after two wins and two defeats.

The postponement of "Le Classique" comes after a period of mixed fortunes for both clubs. Marseille secured a 4-0 victory in their previous league match against Lorient, while PSG maintained their winning streak with a 2-0 triumph over Lens. The last encounter between the two rivals on March 16 saw PSG emerge victorious with a 3-1 scoreline.

The severe weather has also impacted other sporting events in Europe. A match between PSV and Ajax in the Eredivisie was delayed due to fog and poor weather conditions, though it was eventually resumed once visibility improved.
