An explosion occurred at an aluminum manufacturing facility in Shams Abad industrial park in Rey, a district south of Tehran, on Monday afternoon. The blast took place in a casting tank at one of the production units within the industrial zone.
Emergency services received notification of the incident at 12:56 p.m. local time. Firefighting teams responded and extinguished the fire in the shortest time possible, according to officials. Seven ambulances, one bus ambulance, and one operations command vehicle were dispatched to the scene to provide emergency medical and rescue services.
The explosion resulted in 18 people sustaining injuries, according to the Tehran Emergency Medical Services spokesman. Four of the injured were transferred to medical centers for continued treatment after receiving initial medical care at the scene. No deaths were reported in connection with the incident.
An emergency medical services station located near the explosion site sustained damage and was partially destroyed during the blast. However, emergency personnel were on assignment elsewhere at the time of the explosion, and no staff members were injured.
The Rey governor stated that the exact cause of the incident remains under investigation. Officials said that once investigations are completed, findings will be disclosed through appropriate channels.
A member of the Shams Abad industrial park board of directors stated that the explosion sound was related to the aluminum workers' industrial park and had no connection to any hostile attack. The official dismissed circulating rumors and urged residents to follow news about such incidents only from official and credible sources.
Firefighting personnel remained at the scene conducting cleanup and environmental safety operations following the extinguishing of the fire.
