Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi met with Qatari mediators in New York on Monday, according to local Iranian media reports. Araghchi, who is attending the annual UN General Assembly in the city, held the meeting to discuss recent developments in indirect communications between Iran and the United States.
A source close to the Iranian negotiating team told Iran's national broadcaster IRIB that Araghchi would meet with the Qatari mediator later in the day Monday. The meeting was expected to focus on the latest developments concerning the exchange of messages between Iran and the United States.
Iran had explicitly conveyed its views and conditions to the American side through Qatari mediation on Tuesday of the previous week. The Qatari intermediaries have been facilitating indirect dialogue between the two countries, with mediators holding separate talks with both the Iranian and U.S. delegations.
A U.S. journalist working with NBC reported that Araghchi and the Qatari mediators held the meeting. The same journalist noted that the Qatari mediators also held talks with the U.S. delegation during the same period.
