The U.S. Embassy in Bahrain issued a security alert Saturday to American citizens in the region, warning of potential escalation in tensions across the Middle East.
In a statement, the embassy said the security situation in the region remains complex and that unexpected tensions could intensify. The embassy advised U.S. citizens currently in the Middle East to exercise heightened caution and awareness.
The embassy reminded Americans that Iran has previously targeted civilian infrastructure in Bahrain, including hotels in Manama. It urged citizens to remain vigilant given the current security developments.
The embassy also warned that Americans should be prepared for potential disruptions to travel. The statement noted that flight cancellations, airspace closures, and general travel disruptions are possible given current security conditions. U.S. citizens traveling to or departing from the region were advised to monitor news and information related to their travel plans.
The alert comes as regional tensions remain elevated. According to U.S. Central Command, American forces conducted strikes Saturday on Iran's southern coastline, targeting three Iranian crude oil tankers. The command said it struck the tanker M/T Downy near Kharg Island, near Jask, and in the Gulf of Oman.
The embassy statement emphasized that Americans in the Middle East should understand the risks associated with the current security environment and take appropriate precautions when planning travel or conducting business in the region.
