The United States and Israel have struck Iran's Natanz nuclear facility, according to Iran's atomic energy organisation. The attack occurred Saturday as the conflict in the Middle East entered its fourth week.
Iran's atomic energy organisation said in a statement carried by the Tasnim news agency that "following the criminal attacks by the United States and the usurping Zionist regime against our country, the Natanz enrichment complex was targeted this morning."
The organisation reported that there was "no leakage of radioactive materials" at the Shahid Ahmadi Roshan enrichment facility in Natanz, located approximately 220 kilometres southeast of Tehran in central Iran. Natanz is one of Iran's most important uranium enrichment sites.
The International Atomic Energy Agency, the United Nations' nuclear watchdog, confirmed it had been notified of the attack by Tehran. Following an earlier strike on the facility in the first week of the conflict, the IAEA said that "no radiological consequence" was expected from that strike. Satellite images from that earlier attack showed several buildings at the complex appeared damaged.
Russia's Foreign Ministry condemned the strike. Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said the attack was "a blatant violation of international law" and accused the United States and Israel of "disregarding civilian casualties or possible radiological and environmental consequences," according to a social media post.
Natanz had previously been targeted by Israeli airstrikes during the 12-day war between Iran and Israel in June 2025, and by the United States. The facility has been a focal point in the ongoing military operations between the two countries.
The strike comes one day after US President Donald Trump said he was considering "winding down" military operations in the Middle East. At the same time, the United States is deploying three additional amphibious assault ships and approximately 2,500 more Marines to the region.
