A vessel transiting the Strait of Hormuz was struck by an unknown projectile on Tuesday, causing damage to the engine room and resulting in a crew casualty, the UK Maritime Trade Operations agency said.
The vessel's company security officer reported the strike to UKMTO early on Tuesday while conducting an outbound transit of the waterway. The impact damaged the engine room and injured one crew member. The Omani coastguard is assisting the remaining crew aboard the vessel.
UKMTO said no environmental impact has been reported so far. Authorities are investigating the incident to determine the source of the projectile and the circumstances surrounding the strike.
The maritime agency advised vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz to exercise caution and report any suspicious activity to authorities.
