The Saudi-backed Yemeni government accused Iran-aligned Houthi forces of responsibility for an attack on a merchant vessel in the Red Sea, authorities said Monday.
The strike occurred in recent days against a ship flying a Liberian flag. The Yemeni government reported four maritime workers killed in the incident: three Pakistani nationals and one Indonesian national, according to officials.
The casualty count differed from an earlier assessment. British maritime security firm Vanguard had previously reported two deaths from the same attack.
The Houthis, who control much of Yemen, have not yet issued a public statement regarding the allegations. The Saudi-backed government, which controls portions of the country, made the accusation based on its assessment of the attack.
Red Sea shipping has faced repeated disruptions in recent months due to attacks attributed to various armed groups operating in the region. The incident adds to a series of maritime incidents affecting commercial traffic through one of the world's busiest shipping corridors.
The identities of the deceased and additional details about the vessel's cargo and condition were not immediately disclosed by authorities.
