Russian air defenses intercepted and destroyed over 100 Ukrainian drones approaching Moscow during a two-day assault spanning May 7 and 8, according to calculations by TASS based on reports from Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin.

Sobyanin reported multiple interceptions throughout the period. On May 7, air defense forces destroyed two drones en route to the capital, with emergency crews working at debris sites. Additional drones were shot down in subsequent reports, with Sobyanin confirming three more Ukrainian drones were destroyed as the assault continued. A total of 101 drones were launched against the capital on May 7-8, TASS calculated based on the mayor's successive reports.

In a separate operation on Friday, drones struck areas near one of Russia's largest military installations in Grozny, the capital of Chechnya. According to OSINT analysis by Astra, at least two explosions occurred in the city. One strike targeted the Khankala suburb, where a major Russian military base is located along with the headquarters of the 42nd Guards Motor Rifle Evpatoria Red Banner Division, part of the 58th Combined Arms Army of the Southern Military District. A second strike hit the area near Grozny's railway station in the city center, located approximately 2 kilometers from the residence of Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov and about 1.2 kilometers from the Grozny-City complex. Videos published online documented at least two explosions in Grozny. The railway station area also sits near the building of the FSB directorate in Chechnya, according to Astra's analysis.
