American weapons procured through the PURL initiative are already arriving in Ukraine, according to Patrick Turner, head of the NATO Representation to Ukraine.
Turner made the statement Tuesday at an event on the modeling of the Ukraine-NATO Council, held as part of the "Youth without Borders: Together in NATO" project implemented by NGO ANTS. He said the PURL program, which stands for Prioritized Ukraine Requirements List, will continue and become an important element of covering Kyiv's defense needs for the next year.
Turner emphasized that support for Ukraine is one of NATO's priorities and takes many forms. He noted that NATO allies provided Ukraine with military assistance worth more than $50 billion in the previous year. The representative said figures for the current year were not yet available because the year was not complete.
Looking ahead, Turner said the Ukrainian government had indicated a potential defense budget of $120 billion for the following year. He did not provide additional details on the specific weapons systems being delivered or the timeline for future shipments under the PURL initiative.
