Courtney Love disclosed Friday that she nearly died during a severe health crisis in 2019 while in the United Kingdom, describing the episode in an Instagram video.
The 62-year-old rocker said her body "just exploded" during the incident. "It just exploded, and I was in hospitals a lot. I almost died," she stated in the video.
Love reported that she lost all her hair and her weight dropped to approximately 100 pounds during the health battle. Doctors told her she would die, though she said she did not believe them at the time.
The Hole frontwoman attributed her initial reluctance to heed medical advice to a lifelong pattern of behavior. She recalled a childhood tendency to contradict authority figures, saying she would pattern-interrupt adults who made statements she questioned. "I used to like, pattern-interrupt the adults, and they'd tell me 'red.' They'd say 'red was blue,' and then I'd see blue, but blue was blue," Love said.
