Queen guitarist Brian May posted criticism of artificial intelligence on Instagram, sharing an image he said resulted from asking Meta AI to generate the cover of the band's 1980 album "The Game."
The image posted by May did not match the original album cover or depict the actual band members. Alongside the photo, May wrote, "Good job, eh ? So this is the kind of intelligence that will soon be ruling the world ??!" He continued, "Well, great. Maybe this is the time to realise WE ACTUALLY DON'T NEED AI !!!"
May expanded on his concerns in a follow-up message. "But I'm now very serious. I believe the price we are about to pay for this 'inevitable' development is way too high," he stated. He then directed his criticism toward AI data centers, though his full remarks on that topic were not fully captured in available reports.
The Rock & Roll Hall of Famer's comments reflect broader concerns about artificial intelligence technology and its environmental or resource implications, particularly regarding the infrastructure required to support AI systems.
