Child grazed by gunfire during Bronx shootout between rival groups

A 5-year-old girl was struck in the head during a shooting involving two groups in the Bronx on Wednesday evening and was hospitalized in stable condition.

A 5-year-old girl suffered a gunshot wound during a shooting in the Bronx on Wednesday evening, according to the NYPD. The incident occurred around 5:40 p.m. at 1007 Southern Boulevard.

Police said two groups began shooting at each other when one of the bullets grazed the child in the head. The girl was taken to a local hospital in stable condition.

The NYPD released surveillance photos of three suspects in connection with the incident. Authorities are seeking information from the public regarding the shooting.

The incident comes as the NYPD reports a decrease in crime across the city. In the Bronx, there have been 71 shooting incidents as of May 10, down from 85 compared to the same period a year ago.
