Eight people were arrested and charged after police responded to disorderly conduct outside Wyckoff Heights Medical Center in Brooklyn on Saturday night, authorities said.
The NYPD arrived at the scene between Stanhope and Stockholm streets around 10:25 p.m. after reports of disorderly conduct. Officers found numerous people acting disorderly, obstructing vehicle traffic and blocking emergency entrances and exits to the hospital, police said.
Video from the scene showed groups of people gathering on streets and sidewalks, yelling chants and questioning officers as they patrolled the situation. Nine people were taken into custody after repeated verbal warnings to disperse were made by police. Eight of those people were arrested and charged, while one person was released on a criminal court summons.
The gathering occurred as ICE agents arrested a man at the hospital just before 10:25 p.m., according to video footage from the scene. The NYPD said it had no involvement in the ICE operation. It is unknown why ICE took the man into custody, authorities said.
Reports claim that the groups were protesting ICE activity in the area, though authorities have yet to release additional information about the nature of the protest or the circumstances surrounding the ICE arrest.
