A 36-year-old man died in custody Wednesday at a recently opened medical facility operated by the New York City Department of Correction, marking the sixth death in custody this year.
Christopher Rodriguez suffered a medical episode around 8:40 a.m. at the Outposted Therapeutic Housing Unit at NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue and was pronounced dead, according to the NYC Department of Correction.
The facility where Rodriguez died is months old and operates as part of the city's jail medical infrastructure. No additional details about the circumstances of his death or the nature of the medical episode were provided by authorities.
