NYC grandmother missing 11 days in Las Vegas after mysterious texts

A 63-year-old grandmother from Manhattan's Upper East Side has been missing for 11 days after disappearing during a vacation in Las Vegas, with her family receiving suspicious text messages from her phone demanding money and cryptocurrency.

Alisa Goods, a Newark native and grandmother of five, was last seen Aug. 8 when she left a friend's apartment to visit a nearby CVS, according to her family. The friend, Roger John, told authorities that Goods never returned from the errand. John said Goods regularly stays with him during her Las Vegas visits.

Her family reported her missing on Aug. 10. Two days later, they began receiving text messages from her phone. The messages asked for help, gas money, and bitcoin. In one exchange, Goods' niece Alana Calloway received a request for bitcoin. Wary of the sender, Calloway replied that she would get "Kelly" to help—a name no one in the family shares. She expected her aunt would respond asking who Kelly was, but received no such reply.

The request for gas money struck the family as particularly suspicious. Calloway noted that her aunt does not drive and has no car. "I said, 'What do you need gas for? The car?' My aunt does not drive. There is no car," Calloway said.

Goods' daughter Kristen expressed deep concern about her mother's safety. "I am hoping to God for the best, but my heart can't take what it could be, which is the worst," she told CBS News.

Goods' cousin Elise Whitaker appealed for help in locating her. "She is loved, and she is missed. We need to find her," Whitaker said while discussing the search.

The family has also raised concerns about the timeline of the investigation. According to Calloway, it took John two days to file a missing persons report after Goods disappeared. She said it then took four additional days for the case to reach a detective.

Goods is described by her family as an active and healthy woman, making her disappearance uncharacteristic. Her relatives say it is unlike her to disappear without checking in with family members.
