New York City police released body-worn camera footage Friday of officers shooting and killing a machete-wielding man who stabbed three people at Grand Central Terminal's subway station on April 11.

The incident occurred around 9:40 a.m. on a subway platform at the 42nd Street-Grand Central station. According to authorities, 44-year-old Anthony Griffin boarded a 7 train at Vernon Boulevard and arrived at Grand Central, where he stabbed an 84-year-old man on the No. 7 train platform. He then moved to the No. 4, 5 and 6 train platform and slashed two additional victims—a 70-year-old woman and a 65-year-old man.

Two NYPD detectives working an overtime transit detail encountered one of the victims walking up the steps as they responded to the scene. The detectives subsequently encountered Griffin, who was armed with a machete. During the police encounter, Griffin was acting erratically and stated that he was "Lucifer," according to NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch.

The uniformed officers, identified in the video as detectives Ryan Giuffre and Anthony Manetta, ordered Griffin multiple times to drop his weapon and get on the ground. One of the officers opened fire, striking Griffin. He was taken to a local hospital in critical condition and later died.

The bodycam footage was posted on the NYPD's YouTube page. All three stabbing victims survived their injuries.
