Gotham FC announced Thursday that midfielder Jaedyn Shaw, an Olympic Gold Medalist, has signed a contract extension that will keep her with the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) club through the 2029 season.

The extension comes just two months after the 20-year-old joined Gotham FC in a blockbuster intraleague transfer from the North Carolina Courage. The transfer, announced September 11, was valued at $1.25 million, setting a new NWSL transfer record. The previous league record, set just the month prior, was $600,000, paid by the Kansas City Current for forward Ally Sentnor.

The $1.25 million fee paid by Gotham FC for Shaw is among the highest ever recorded in women's soccer globally. Reports indicated the fee was the fifth-highest transfer in the history of the sport and the sixth transaction exceeding $1 million recorded during the 2025 calendar year. Other high-profile transfers in 2025 included Grace Geyoro ($1.9 million), Lizbeth Ovalle ($1.5 million), and both Alyssa Thompson and Olivia Smith ($1.3 million each).

Shaw, who is considered one of the rising stars of the United States national team, expressed enthusiasm for remaining with the club. "I'm so excited to continue to give my all for this incredible club and our amazing fans," Shaw said in a statement released by the team. "I'm grateful to call this place home for the years ahead."

Shaw made an immediate impact upon arriving in New Jersey. In her Gotham debut on September 12, she scored her first goal for the club against the San Diego Wave. Shaw began her professional career with the Wave at age 17. The goal marked the second time in her career that she has scored in an NWSL club debut, making her the fifth player in league history to achieve that feat.

Yael Averbuch West, the general manager and head of soccer operations for Gotham FC, noted Shaw's rapid contribution to the team. "Jaedyn has already demonstrated her incredible quality in the short time she's been with us," Averbuch West said. "We're thrilled to keep her at Gotham and look forward to watching her continued development."
