Former Attorney General Pam Bondi will not appear for a scheduled deposition before the House Oversight Committee next week to answer questions about the justice department's handling of the investigation into Jeffrey Epstein and the release of the Epstein files, the committee said Wednesday.

The Department of Justice stated that Bondi will not appear on April 14 for the deposition since she is no longer attorney general and was subpoenaed in her capacity as attorney general, according to a committee spokesperson. Bondi was removed from her role as America's top law enforcement officer by President Donald Trump last week.

The House Oversight Committee said it will contact Bondi's personal counsel to discuss next steps regarding scheduling her deposition at a later date.

Republican committee member Nancy Mace said the subpoena requires Bondi to appear and that her no longer being attorney general does not "erase her obligation to testify and does not end Congressional oversight." Mace urged Republican leadership to push for Bondi to answer questions.

The deposition was scheduled to address the justice department's handling of disclosures related to Epstein, the deceased sex trafficker whose case has drawn congressional scrutiny.
