President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio are considering firing U.S. Ambassador to Greece Kimberly Guilfoyle following a series of reports alleging she engaged in improper and possibly illegal conduct before and during her tenure in Athens.
A senior U.S. official said Sunday that Trump and Rubio are "extremely pissed off" by Guilfoyle's reported conduct. The official indicated that a decision on what action to take would likely come this week, following Monday's federal holiday.
Among the allegations reported is that Guilfoyle asked a Trump donor to cover a $100,000 credit card bill in exchange for access to administration officials. Eric Deters, identified as the donor who was allegedly solicited to pay off Guilfoyle's American Express card, discussed the matter publicly this week.
Additional reports have surfaced regarding Guilfoyle's relationships with Greek business figures and her use of private jets. The reports also include allegations of workplace intimidation and demotions at the embassy, as well as investigations being conducted by the State Department.
Guilfoyle, a former Fox News host who was previously engaged to Donald Trump Jr. and was married to former California Governor Gavin Newsom, has held the position of ambassador to Greece in the Trump administration.
