President Donald Trump announced Friday that he will not attend the wedding of his eldest son, Donald Trump Jr., to socialite Bettina Anderson, scheduled for this weekend in the Bahamas.

Trump said in a statement on Truth Social that while he wanted to be present, "circumstances pertaining to Government, and my love for the United States of America, do not allow me to do so." He added that he felt it important to remain in Washington, D.C., at the White House during the current period.

The president had indicated Thursday to reporters that the conflict with Iran was commanding his attention and would prevent him from attending the ceremony.

Donald Trump Jr. and Anderson legally married Thursday in Palm Beach, Florida, according to a marriage certificate obtained by Page Six. The couple's ceremonial wedding is scheduled for this weekend in the Bahamas.

Trump said in his statement, "While I very much wanted to be with my son, Don Jr., and the newest member of the Trump Family, his soon to be wife, Bettina, circumstances pertaining to Government, and my love for the United States of America, do not allow me to do so."

The president expressed his wishes for the couple, saying he was wishing them all the best despite his absence.
