Real Betis defeated local rivals Sevilla FC 2-0 at the Estadio Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán on Saturday in a La Liga match that was temporarily halted due to objects being thrown from the stands.

The victory, secured by second-half goals from Pablo Fornals and Sergi Altimira, marked the first time in eight years that Real Betis had won at the home stadium of their eternal rival, a feat last achieved on January 6, 2018. The result of the 14th matchday places Real Betis fifth in the league classification.

Betis started the match strongly, pressing high and attempting to prevent Sevilla from playing out of their own half. However, the first half saw few clear scoring opportunities due to continuous interruptions, fouls, and a lack of precision, according to reports.

The deadlock was broken in the second half when Pablo Fornals scored in the 54th minute. Sergi Altimira extended the lead for the Verdiblancos in the 69th minute, cementing Betis's superiority in the contest. Sevilla's difficulties compounded late in the game when Isaac received a red card in the 84th minute.

The match was marred by an incident in the final minutes of play when referee José Luis Munuera Montero interrupted the game in the 87th minute. The stoppage was triggered by the launching of several bottles and objects onto the pitch from the stands.

The referee applied the protocol against the launching of objects, requiring both teams to abandon the field. The interruption lasted approximately 15 minutes.

Despite the scoreline and Betis playing with a numerical advantage following the red card, the referee insisted on the temporary suspension, overriding the apparent preference of both teams to continue play, according to reports.

Following a public address announcement warning that any further launches would result in the definitive suspension of the game, play resumed in the 88th minute. The match concluded after the 96th minute, with Real Betis maintaining the 0-2 scoreline.
