Jonathan Andic, son of Mango fashion brand founder Isak Andic, was arrested Tuesday by the Catalan police force Mossos d'Esquadra on suspicion of homicide in connection with his father's death.
Isak Andic, 71, died on December 14, 2024, after falling approximately 150 meters down a ravine near the Salnitre caves in Collbató, Montserrat, in Barcelona province, during a hiking excursion. Jonathan Andic was the sole companion present at the time and initially reported the incident to emergency services around 1 p.m.
The case was initially treated as a mountain accident and was archived in January 2025 due to lack of evidence of criminal conduct. The investigation was later reopened and shifted focus to Jonathan Andic's account of events. Police identified contradictions in his statements when he was questioned as a witness, according to authorities. The Catalan police had considered Jonathan Andic a suspect since at least October 2025.
Jonathan Andic, 45, was taken into custody at his residence during the morning of Tuesday, May 19. He was transported to the Martorell courthouse, approximately 30 kilometers from Barcelona, handcuffed and under police escort. He arrived at the courthouse after 12:30 p.m. local time.
During his court appearance, the Public Prosecutor's Office requested provisional detention with the option of bail set at one million euros. The judge reserved her decision on the measure at the time of reporting. Andic was transferred to the courthouse holding cells while awaiting the judge's ruling.
A family spokesperson stated that Jonathan Andic's cooperation with authorities in the investigation into his father's death "has been and will be maximum," and noted that he was providing testimony as part of the ongoing investigation. The spokesperson indicated they had no further information about the proceedings.
Isak Andic founded Mango, a major Spanish fast-fashion multinational brand based in Barcelona. The case remains under judicial secrecy, according to sources from the Catalan Superior Court of Justice.
