Joan Laporta, president of FC Barcelona, announced Tuesday that he suffered a cardiac arrhythmia and will not travel with the team to England for its preseason training camp.
Laporta disclosed the health episode through a social media post, stating that medical staff at Barcelona Hospital successfully reversed the arrhythmia. "Everything went well. They reversed the arrhythmia. My heart is beating rhythmically again," he wrote on Instagram.
The president spent several days hospitalized during treatment. He expressed gratitude to the medical team at Barcelona Hospital, led by Dr. Jordi Morillas, as well as to the club's own medical staff. "I am very grateful to the great doctors, nurses and healthcare staff at Barcelona Hospital, led by Dr. Jordi Morillas. They did excellent work. Beyond their wisdom and great knowledge, their human treatment is kind, understanding, full of patience," Laporta said.
Following the successful treatment, physicians recommended that Laporta observe a period of rest. Medical guidance also prohibits him from flying in the coming days. As a result, he will not join Barcelona's preseason activities, which began Monday at St. George's Park, nor will he attend the team's match against Birmingham scheduled for Friday.
Barcelona manager Hansi Flick is leading the squad through its preseason preparations in England without the club's president present.
