Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce has purchased a minority ownership stake in the Cleveland Guardians, the Major League Baseball team announced Wednesday.
Kelce, a native of Cleveland Heights, Ohio, told ESPN of the investment. He discussed the move on the latest episode of his "New Heights" podcast, which he hosts with his brother, Jason.
"This is a way that I can always cement myself back into the east side of Cleveland," Kelce said on the podcast. "It's a dream come true for a Cleveland kid. Any Cleveland kid would be through the roof right now and I'm happy to be the honorable one to get to do it for us."
Kelce added that the opportunity came unexpectedly. "The opportunity came across the desk and I just couldn't say no," he said. "These guys gave me the opportunity to show my Cleveland love and plant my roots in Cleveland forever, no matter what."
The NFL player has demonstrated his support for Cleveland sports teams in recent years, attending multiple high-profile games featuring the Guardians and the Cavaliers. Kelce grew up watching the Guardians as a child in his hometown.
On the podcast, Kelce also referenced a first pitch he threw at a Guardians game in 2023, indicating he hoped to improve on that performance in the future.
